Atleast eight workers lay dead after an avoidable mistake by head scientist Jeff had falsely claimed that rain was due. The rain did not fall for some time despite the assertions by the highly ranking civil servant assuring the people that the dance would be fruitful. The workers – too exhausted to run away, were massacred by an armed group that arrived and indiscriminately fired into the crowd.
Security had already been a major concern, with criticism on where to conduct the project going repeatedly ignored. The few survivors of this ordeal turned out to be little more than slaves who were only present for the work itself with no compensation. The rain did fall to wash away the sins of this bloodbath some minutes after the killings, but the innocent workers didn’t survive to see it.
The incident was captured on video, and was not the first time there had been a fatal accident. A letter of complaint has been sent to the head of the Government, calling to shut down the project after so many lives have been lost. This is all in the background of the far greater concern that (according to rumours) the system will soon be weaponised. Again the question must be asked – is it worth it, and is it ethical?
