Southern Outpost secedes from Government community base

The democratic system worked again to provide a leader and a destination following the end of the previous wipe on 1st December 2022. The foundation of the new Government community base on Rustopia US Large was a challenging day, but the President drove the project forward, and successfully established the base in the middle of the map which featured concentric wooden walls by the end of that first day.

A group of villagers founded a separate outpost on the south coast, and cited a number of motivations for having settled there instead of the central village. Among the reasons for having moved were the fact that the coast offered easier access to water for use in a plant base (even if this required energy for desalination). They were attacked less, and had still not been raided there by the third day, while the central village had been attacked multiple times in the first 24 hours.

The Southern Outpost under construction

It wasn’t the first time a group had moved away from the community base in Government history, and the Southern Outpost were certainly happy in their spot, with no plans to move, and were busy upgrading the base. The nearby spawn beach offered positives and negatives, as the scavenging masses costed ammunition to keep at bay, but raiding the local bandit bases sometimes unearthed valuable stashes of loot.

They weren’t originially planning to move so far away, but picked the “juicy spot” which they felt was local to underground tunnels; an underwater lab; a lighthouse; and the trading outpost landmark. A less tangible force involved in the seperation may (loosely) have been a social one, as the Southern Outpost group get along well together (with compatible timezones), and may have enjoyed the private nature of working with friends as opposed to the community base under the directions of a President.

The President had been concerned about a civil war being sparked by an incident of friendly fire, which was caused by the two groups using seperate team systems (the reliance on the team system is often heavy). There was a program to connect the two teams, but not everyone used it, and its utility is not as straightforward as the inbuilt UI system.

Two teams roaming near eachother

At any rate, the fervor behind the idea of a civil war was just banter, as a friendly “rivalry” emerges between the north and south. The distance (about a 10 minute run) makes trading difficult, but intelligence is easily shared as the Discord voice channels are only a click away from eachother.
