Some Rust clans have a democratic system, and preserve their history in articles and videos, which can make the clan look attractive to players that are searching for agency and meaning in a group. In contrast, many teams have demanding requirements in LFM adverts (looking-for-members posts on Rust Discord servers and subreddits) but appear to offer nothing in return. Some of the more ridiculous entry requirements are listed below.
A common requirement is a minimum number of hours played – sampling 10 LFM posts gives an average of 1,670 hours played, ranging from 500 hours to 3,000. The ability of “AK spray” measured in metres ranges from 125m to 200m (or half of that if fired when standing). Some groups require a clip of the applicant in combat, and also screenshots of the applicant’s base. One LFM post noted that out of 1,500 recruits, only 20 “made the cut“.
Some particular requirements have included:
- No Ego
